13. The Universe is Committed to Surprise

Could anyone have imagined that the powerful forces of a supernova explosion that created some of the elements that would form the earth or that nuclear fusion reactions, whereby the sun transforms 4 million tons of hydrogen into light every second, could have had an essential role in the creation of the delicate morning glory flower? Would there be more of a surprise? The fierce care of a mother for her infant is no less a surprise. We could not predict the properties of biological cells by looking only at molecules. The unfolding creativity of the cosmos and earth gives hope as we ask what else may unfold within the ongoing story.
